POSITION SUMMARY:  
The Howard Hughes Corporation is searching for a Director of Sales and Marketing for its Westin at The Woodlands hotel. The hotel is located in the award winning master planned community of The Woodlands, Texas 45 minutes north of Houston. The hotel features 305 guestrooms, concierge floors, 15,000 sq. ft. of meeting space, two restaurants and 2 lounges. The area around the hotel is home to multiple Fortune 500 companies, The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, shopping, dining and entertainment venues.
 
 
The Director of Sales & Marketing will develop, implement, monitor and evaluate the hotel’s sales objectives, strategies, advertising, public relations and collateral, to support the revenue goals stated in the annual Budget.  This individual must effectively manage the efforts and productivity of individual Sales Managers.  This person will ensure that effective internal and external communications with business partners are always maintained.  Media and internet relations skills are of the utmost importance.  The Director of Sales & Marketing helps create and maintain a high level of awareness for The Westin at The Woodlands.  This role works to take advantage of cross selling and marketing opportunities with other Howard Hughes Corporation (HHC) properties.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:  
Prepare budgets and forecasts for group and non-group room nights, ADR and room revenues.
Monitor the hotel’s progress in achieving monthly revenue targets and propose and implement initiatives to reach those goals.
Produce monthly booking pace reports for group and non-group room nights and revenues.
Interact daily with Sales and Revenue managers to monitor production and mentor their individual efforts to achieve their goals.
Chair daily Business Review Meeting to review group leads, approve rates, and offer specific direction to close the business.
Monitor inbound lead production from Starwood National Sales Offices and HHC hotels to insure proper and timely follow up to maximize conversion.
Manage hotel’s relationship and expenses with Starwood Field Marketing.
Develop and plan Customer Relation Management initiatives including implementation of database management for consolidation, classification and customization to be used in direct marketing programs.
Establish and maintain long term relationships with customers.
Ensure all related websites are continually updated with all the latest information, pictures and group and leisure offers.
Coordinate all hotel marketing efforts with the Howard Hughes Hospitality Group to maximize leverage in all marketing related endeavors.
Establish ongoing relations with various media to promote specific promotions and story ideas for publication and review editorial calendars for current and future relevant opportunities.
Solicit and host ongoing individual media visits and press trips including advertising agencies, media agencies, web designers and database managers to further The Westin at The Woodlands’ exposure to the press.
Develop and expand exclusive promotional partnerships with area companies and special events to maximize hotel exposure and revenue opportunities.
Develop a realistic annual marketing plan and budget with monthly reviews to update and modify as required by market conditions.
Publish and distribute press releases monthly to potentially interested media with telephone follow-up.
Maintain up to date on-line, public relations photo file for inclusion in appropriate releases.
Attend weekly Operations meeting, all general staff meetings, and various departmental meetings to establish story ideas for press releases.
Assist with the direction and implementation on internal marketing campaigns that integrate employee knowledge and support for property marketing activities. Assist with strategy for staff education and approaches useful in up-selling, promoting seasonal specials and general resort knowledge.
Actively participate in select community related organizations in an effort to promote The Westin at The Woodlands with focus on local charities, the CVB and the Chamber of Commerce.
Work with HHC public relations team to coordinate and approve messaging on behalf of the hotel.
Direct the development of leisure promotions and focus on media placement within region and travel industry publications to increase transient revenues.
Create and maintain The Westin at The Woodlands press kit and ongoing distribution to the media.

Promptly report accidents, injuries, property damage or loss to Supervisor.
Keep accurate communication flowing freely among all hotel departments.
Inform management promptly of any work-related problems or guest complaints.
Promote the hotel through goodwill, courtesy and a positive attitude.
Attend all scheduled training classes and meetings.
Continue to learn and grow in the position.
Perform any reasonable request as assigned or directed by management.
Provide for a safe work environment by following all safety and security procedures and rules.
Comply with all applicable federal, state and local laws ordinances as they apply to the hotel, guest and employees.
Due to the nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel.
 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Utilizes leadership skills and motivation techniques in order to maximize employee productivity and satisfaction.
Selects qualified employees and provides orientation and training.
Conducts employee meetings and counseling sessions in order to maximize employee morale and productivity and foster a sense of community.
Determines and communicates standards of performance to employees. Evaluates employee performance on a regular basis and recommends salary increases as appropriate.
Coaches and develops employees’ sales skills to maximize potential and prepare them for future promotional opportunities and assist employees on career development.
Insures that disciplinary action is taken as required ensuring consistency, fairness and respect within framework of established guidelines.
 
 
QUALIFICATIONS

Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.

Extensive knowledge of sales skills.
Must possess basic math and computational ability.
Must possess computer skills, including, but not limited to Microsoft Office and ISAC.
Ability to assess/evaluate employees’ performance fairly.
Ability to supervise, train and counsel subordinates.
Knowledge of hotel and competitive market.
Ability to establish and execute appropriate action plans.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s Degree in Hotel Management or Sales and Marketing field preferred or 8+ years of hotel sales experience in lieu of degree.
Minimum of three years hotel sales in a Leadership/Director’s Role is required. Starwood or similar branded, full service hotel experience preferred.
